And New York here we come.... Presented by Community Auditions, NEW YORK'S "STAR OF THE DAY" is New York City's springboard for new and rising talent!
During its tenure on-air, Community Auditions has showcased some of today’s favorite celebrities - such as comedian SARAH SILVERMAN, RCA recording artist and 2012 contestant on "The VOICE", AVERY WILSON... and global recording artist and 2016 "Best New Artist" GRAMMY Award-winner , MEGHAN TRAINOR.
FOR OVER 65 YEARS, Community Auditions has been a family tradition in New England. It first aired in 1950 with host, Gene Burns. In 1965, he was succeeded by popular Boston radio and television personality, DAVE MAYNARD, who remained the show’s iconic host for over 25 years.
Six contestants performed during each 30 minute show. At the end of the program, viewers were encouraged to send postcards voting for their favorite contestants.
The following week, the winner was announced and would appear again on that week’s show. Winners walked away with bragging rights, a trophy, and a prize – such as a brand new TV set.
At the end of every episode, Maynard, along with the contestants, would sing the show’s beloved “Star of the Day” theme song - with the lyrics providing a constant reminder to the audience that... ...“THEIR vote holds the key.”
After going off the air in 1987, the show returned to television in 2007 as “COMMUNITY AUDITIONS - STAR OF THE DAY”. It continues to be a tradition for a whole NEW GENERATION of viewers!
